Be parked and on foot by early afternoon. For Light Up Saturday in Blue Ridge, Georgia, on November 28, 2026, the organizers say all cars must be off East and West Main Street by 4 p.m. (Light Up Blue Ridge). The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. and the Great Tree is lit at about 7 p.m., so most people are downtown for the whole afternoon and evening.

What is known about parking for 2026

  • Main Street clears at 4 p.m. That applies to both East and West Main on parade day. If you park on Main in the morning, you will be moving the car mid-afternoon.
  • Downtown parking is limited. The railway says there are paid lots near the depot and that parking on West and East Main Street is limited to 3 hours (Blue Ridge Scenic Railway). On Light Up day a paid lot is the better bet than a Main Street space.
  • Light Up Saturday is also a train day. The 1-Hour Holiday Express is scheduled at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. that day (railway booking system), and the railway asks riders to arrive 45 minutes early. It also says weekends are its busiest days, with heavy traffic and limited parking.
  • The newest parking map we found is from 2022. A Blue Ridge Business Association map sorts downtown spaces into limited-time, free unlimited, city paid, private paid and handicap parking (2022 parking map). It shows roughly where lots are. It does not show 2026 rates or rules.
  • No 2026 plan is out yet. We could not read the City of Blue Ridge’s own parking page, and neither the city nor the organizers had published a 2026 parking or shuttle plan when we checked on October 17, 2026. We have not listed any lot, rate, walking time or shuttle we could not confirm.

Who to ask before you drive up

Parking is a city matter. Blue Ridge City Hall is at 480 West First Street, (706) 632-2091, open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (hours from a 2025 copy of the City of Blue Ridge website). For event questions, the Light Up organizers list 706-258-8289 for general information.

Once you are in town, the Chamber’s downtown info center at 282 West Main Street is open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is designed to work without staff, so expect maps and brochures rather than a person. The main Visitor Center at 152 Orvin Lance Drive, off Hwy 515, is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Fannin County Chamber).

Dates can change; confirm with Light Up Blue Ridge and the city before you go. The organizers say the event happens rain, snow or shine.

The route and where crowds build

The organizer describes the route as East Main Street from Church Street to Mountain Street, down Mountain Street, and back along West Main Street. Its two pages disagree on where the return leg ends, so we don’t name an end point. The map shows the route and our sourced pins; the Christmas parade guide has the entry rules.

The gold line is the parade route as the Light Up Blue Ridge organizers describe it: from Church Street and East Main, down East Main to Mountain Street, down Mountain and back along West Main. Their pages differ on where it ends, so the line stops at Depot Street. The outlined block is the downtown park. No 2026 route map or parking plan has been published; this is a planning sketch, not directions.

Plain advice for a crowded evening

  • Agree on a meeting spot, such as the depot at 241 Depot Street, before anyone wanders off.
  • It is dark by the time the parade starts. Bring a small flashlight for the walk back to the car.
  • Dress for two hours of standing outside after sunset. Our December weather page has the NOAA normals.
  • Riding the train the same day? Pick an early departure so you are off the train and settled before Main Street closes. Details are on the Holiday Express page.
  • Blue Friday, November 27, has Santa from noon to 4:15 p.m., food vendors on Depot Street and live entertainment from noon to 5 p.m., but no parade. The Light Up Blue Ridge guide covers both days.
